Become a UTSA Group Exercise Instructor
Step 1: Sign up for our Group Fitness Instructor Training (GFIT) course online
GFIT is a FREE 12-hour training course dedicated to teaching you the basic skills needed to become an instructor at UTSA Campus Rec through hands on experience and lecture. Over the course of 4 Sundays you will learn how to teach a variety of formats as well as prepare for Group Exercise Instructor Auditions. Step 2: Apply for the UTSA Group Exercise Instructor position.
Step 3: Audition to become a UTSA Group Exercise Instructor
Auditions will be held on Friday, November 13th. For the audition, you will instruct 12-minute “mini” class of your choice: step, kickboxing, or Pilates. If selected, you will begin a 6-8 week shadowing process in 2 formats of your choice starting at the beginning of the next semester.
Step 4: Obtain your CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
Step 5: Obtain Primary Group Exercise Certification from AFAA within 90 days of hire.
Become a UTSA Personal Trainer
Step 1: Choose the appropriate certification.
