Orientations are a onetime process throughout your membership here at Campus Rec. Bike and boat orientations are mandatory before borrowing this type of equipment.
A minimum of two and maximum of eight people are required for the orientation to be offered. To sign up for an orientation, stop by the Outdoor Resource Center (ORC) or call 210-458-6720. RSVP a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
Bike Orientation is from 4:00-5:00PM. Orientations last approximately 40-50 minutes, depending on group size. The orientation consists of a 15 minute safety briefing and a 20-25 minute road/trail ride.
Patrons are required to arrive in athletic attire, comfortable tennis shoes and be prepared for a non-paved trail ride.
Upon completing and passing the safety briefing and road/trail ride, patrons are free to check out a bike.
Boat Orientations are from 5:00-6:00PM. The orientation consists of a 10 minute safety briefing followed by a 30 minute demonstration. During this demo, patrons will learn how to safely rack-and-strap the canoe or kayak to their vehicle.All vehicles are welcome, with the exception of hatchbacks and vehicles smaller than a Honda Civic®. You DO NOT need a truck to transport our boats.
Upon completing the safety briefing and rack-and-strap demonstration, patrons are free to check out one boat for up to a week, free of charge.
Kayak Roll Clinic
Looking to master the kayak roll or just work on your technique? Our kayak roll clinic is the perfect opportunity to develop your kayak skills. We start with the basics and build your confidence and muscle memory so when the time comes, you have a greater likelihood of success in getting your kayak back up. Your instructor will work with you to achieve your personal goals.
The kayak roll sessions offer a great opportunity to build your confidence, and practice a number of skills which may including strokes, bracing, edging, and the kayak roll. Learn at your own pace with personalized assistance from friendly OP instructors! Kayak roll clinics are free but limited to the first 6 people who sign up at the ORC. Enrollment must be done 24 hours in advance. We will not take walk-up enrollment due to the fact that we need to fit you to a boat and PFD.
